Hidden Valley National Tree Day Planting
The reserve is next to 20 Eastern Ridge, Hidden Valley
Sunday 26 July 2026 10am-1pm
Everyone is welcome to come along to WEG’s National Tree Day planting at the reserve that adjoins 20 Eastern Ridge, Hidden Valley, Wallan, where we’ll plant 1,500 native trees, shrubs, rushes, & grasses. This National Tree Day planting will enhance the extent and diversity of the reserve’s indigenous vegetation, and improve its biodiversity values and habitat connectivity.
No planting experience necessary.

Where: Meet at entrance to the reserve that adjoins 20 Eastern Ridge (see map). The reserve is 0.8 km east of Eastern Ridge’s intersection with Hidden Valley Boulevard. Look for Wallan Environment Group’s sign on Eastern Ridge.
The reserve (managed by Mitchell Shire Council) is 4.9 hectares in area and extends through to Valley Drive, Hidden Valley. The reserve’s remnant vegetation is Herb-rich Foothill Forest EVC (Central Victorian Uplands bioregion), which has ‘depleted’ conservation status.
What to wear/bring:
- wear gum boots (if you have them) or sturdy boots as some of the sites where we will plant are wet underfoot
- wear weather appropriate clothing, including wet weather gear
- your own gardening gloves (if you have them)
- water bottle
What will be provided:
- all tools
- holes for planting the plants will be pre-drilled
- gardening gloves (including for children) will be available
- morning tea & light lunch
Note: please don’t attend if you have any cold, flu or Covid 19 symptoms.

Targeting woody weed seedlings
Meet at the end of Lucca Way Hidden Valley
Weeding gear including gloves will be provided but please bring secateurs if you own a pair. Wear appropriate clothing and sun protection. Refreshments provided. This event is unsuitable for children under 16 years old.
Two different methods will be used:
- Chemical – cut & paint, using secateurs & dabber bottles
- Mechanical – physical removal using the appropriate tools

Hidden Valley Rail Reserve Site Maintenance
Meet at the rail reserve, past the northern end of Lucca Way.
Wednesday 5 August 2026, 10am-noon
Activities include:
- Gorse cut and dab
- Other weed work as required.
- Restore guards etc
- Check nest boxes

Clean Up Australia Day
Sunday 1 March 2026 from 10am-12noon
Please join us on Clean Up Australia Day to clean up the roadside of Old Sydney Road, Wallan, between its intersections with Darraweit Road and Stockdale Road. We’d love you to join us to clean up this section of Old Sydney Road, which has high conservation values with areas of significant local flora including many wildflowers in spring https://www.beam.org.au/naturaltreasures/old-sydney-road-wildflower-area. However, it’s also an area where lots of rubbish gets dumped along the roadside.
Meet: “Walladarra” 1395 Old Sydney Road, Wallan (Map link https://maps.app.goo.gl/X96cUznyuHLB62Kx5) – meet at the house to complete the event attendance sheet and for a briefing at 10am.
When: Sunday 1 March 2026 from 10am -12noon. A light lunch will be provided after the cleanup is completed at 12 noon.
Parking: please don’t park along Old Sydney Road. Instead drive into the property at 1395 Old Sydney Road where areas to park are available.
Note: as this cleanup is along a roadside children (15 years and under) are not permitted to attend.
What to bring: please wear sturdy shoes/boots, gloves, sun protection, and bring a water bottle.
What’s provided: bags to collect rubbish, sharps containers, gloves (if you don’t have them, sunscreen, and water.
Support from Mitchell Shire Council: this cleanup would not be possible without the support of Mitchell Shire Council, including the traffic management signage along Old Sydney Road that will reduce the speed limit to 4Okph during the time of this event.
